Turns out we majorly suck at doing things in a timely manner. And we majorly suck at installing car seats. I'm watching a lovely kiddo for a few weekends and wanted to borrow a car seat so as to be able to take him places. I got it weeks ago, and wanted to put it in right away. Just in case anything went array; that way we'd have time to get help fixing it. Fast forward to last night when we finally tried to install it. Not so much on the happening. So we're trying again tonight. And if it doesn't work tonight then I can't take said kiddo anywhere. Which would be a major bummer. Ack. This sucks and apparently we do too. (I'm unhappy...can you tell?)

Radio
On my drive home this afternoon I was listening to the Fish. The guy in the afternoons does this thing every Thursday where people call in and tell him what they're Thankful for that day. A lady calls and she opens with, "I'm Thankful because my mother-in-law has cancer...." Uhhhhhh...... Talk about serious in-law issues. (She did clarify that her MIL actually had surgery to remove cancer, so I'm thinking she was thankful for the successful surgery and not so much the cancer.)

Cleanse
So for three weeks, I've given up the following:
Caffeine.
Alcohol.
Animal Products.
Gluten.
And Sugar.
Sounds like fun, right? In an attempt to learn better eating habits (ie quit snacking all the time, and when I do snack craving fruit instead of chocolate) I'm doing a three week cleanse my friend Katie and her family started doing every year. So far, I'm loving it. I was expecting major headaches from caffeine withdraw, but I only endured two days of mild headaches. I think that's totally a score. I'm only on my first week, so it hasn't been too difficult yet. I mostly miss my daily egg & cheese sandwich for breakfast. I'm a total cheese addict, so I'm still longing for my dairy fix. But cutting out dairy was made easier by the fact that Steve and I switched to soy milk a month or so ago. I don't know if the switch is permanent, but I've discovered there's not much in this world that can't be helped by a large cup of tea with copious amounts of soy.
While I don't miss gluten and sugar much, they're definitely the hardest things to watch out for. I made a stir fry on our first cleanse night and went to throw in soy sauce - only it had wheat in it. I never would have guessed. And then the next day I went to enjoy some gluten free chips with hummus only to see they had sugar. I'm reading labels like fiend.
I'll let you know if I get crabby. Or if Steve gets crabby cause I'm depriving him of snacky foods. Also, I'm giving up meat for Lent again this year. Combined with this cleanse that's two whole months of meat free living (I will start eating fish again once the cleanse is over I don't really want to forgo my annual sushi birthday dinner). I actually don't anticipate minding the vegetarian routine much, so long as no one grills a steak under my nostrils.

Seven Years...
...That's how long it's been since my last snow delay.
Until today that is.
I got to go in to work three hours late today.
I got out at the same time.
And I definitely got paid for a full day.
Here's hoping it happens again...
...but sooner than seven years from now.
Also, Steve had the day off today.
He was up to some major home renovations.
Most of which had to do with blockading out rodents.
I never told you what happened.
Here's the deal...
The rats started coming upstairs. THEY CLIMBED THE STAIRS! They ate the wrapping off part of Steve's birthday present from his parents. And they drug a bag of potatoes down the steps. Ahhhh!!!! But hold on, it gets worse. We went to church on Sunday and whilst helping with the babies I looked for lotion in my purse. I could not find it anywhere. Mind you, I had switched purses the night before, so I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it was in there. Whatever. la. de. da. I went about my business thinking it had fallen out in the car or some such. We got home...I looked down the steps and my lotion was right next to the bag of potatoes. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE RATS GOT IN MY PURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN. MY. PURSE! I am still utterly and completely outraged. I mean, being in the basement is one thing. Coming up the stairs is another entirely. But going in my purse? I mean COME ON!
So today Steve kept plugging away at all the renovations downstairs. We'll probably start waterproofing the basement this weekend. And he also pulled up carpet in the family room, used a circular saw to cut up the floor, and barricaded the h-e-double-l out of the gap he found between the addition and the rest of the house. Here's hoping it works. Because I'm guessing next stop for the rats is my room, where they will surely start eating us alive.
Anyway, so much for a nice happy post about a snow delay.
Sleep well...
...and don't leave your bags lying around...
